My Journey

I started using alcohol when I was 11 years old. I did not know it at the time but I would spend the next 20+ years addicted to anything that would change the way I felt. I stopped using and drinking for a few years, but did not do the necessary steps to stay clean. I have been clean since 11/15/2006. I have had my share of self-imposed hardships in my life. Caused by my own actions. Through getting in legal trouble and the help of many men and women I now have a life that is unbelievable. I love to ride my motorcycle. I get to use my love for motorcycles to help people just like me, who are recovering from addiction, and some that are brand new to wanting a better life but do not know where to start. I am not alone in this, there are hundreds of us, and I am proud to be a part of it.

I started college in 2010 with the help of a very dear friend. She hired me to fix a light switch in her home. While I was working on her switch, she talked to me about the classes she was in at TVCC. It sounded great and mixed with the enthusiasm she had for her course of study I wanted to explore it myself. I was not convinced that I could do it. So, when she asked me if I wanted to, I said yes, however, I did not plan to go through with it. She had other plans and when I was back at my house, she had already made an appointment for me the next morning. It was this push that I needed in my life, she was a driving force in my now amazing career. I struggled with the coursework some, but most of it went very well. I was able to be on the dean’s list for 2 of the years I was in school. I completed my college venture in 2013/2014. I have been working at the place I did my internship at for the past 8 years now. I absolutely love my job and the people I get to work with.

The Beauty of Region 3

I live and work in Region 3. I was born and raised in this region, so I love it here. Getting to serve the people in this region is a way for me to give back to my community, the one I took so much from while I was in my addiction. One of the best things about Region 3 is all the amazing people in it, and the endless opportunities that one can take advantage of. There is, fishing, hiking, camping, and endless roads to ride on. Oh, did I mention that I love to ride motorcycles? One of the greatest feelings in the world to me is to have the wind in my face and a long winding road to unwind on after a long work week.

Current Happenings in Region 3

In our region, there seems to be a rise in Fentanyl overdoses. We are seeing other street drugs mixed with deadly substances. Drugs like heroin and meth have been the two most common in our region so far. We have experienced 3 overdoses in the last 3 months in our region alone from Fentanyl mixed with other drugs.

Upcoming Event in Region 3

In September we are having a recovery event called “Hands Around the Park” it will be in conjunction with Recovery Month, which is September. We were unable to do it last year due the Covid-19 pandemic. If you are looking for a place to learn, laugh, and get to know the community partners that serve in the prevention field then come out to Region 3 in Ontario on September 16th for Save The Date.

Advice to IBADCC Community

In closing, I would like to add that personal self-care is above all the best thing a helping professional can do to help the people they work with. Take a few moments to completely unplug from the work, take a drive, go fishing, spend some time with the special people in your life. Go for a long ride in the beautiful outdoors of Region 3 Idaho.

Thank you

Oral cancer screenings are vital for early detection of potentially life-threatening conditions. During these screenings, dentists look for signs such as unusual lumps, sores, or sherway trillium dental discoloration in the mouth. Early diagnosis can lead to more successful treatment outcomes, making regular screenings an important preventive measure.
