Changes to Supervisor Requirements

Hello IBADCC Certified Professionals,

Over the past couple of months, the Board of Directors has been hard at work to evaluate and better define the qualifications of registered Supervisors within IBADCC. This has been especially important since the legislative transition away from IDAPA standards, which impacted the criteria for those who do not hold a credential from IBADCC but have external licensure. There are a couple of significant changes under these new criteria that we want you to be aware of.

  • Individuals holding the ADC credential will no longer qualify to obtain the Supervisor credential if they do not already hold that credential as of 05/08/2026. ADCs who currently hold the Supervisor credential will be "grandfathered" into these rules and be able to continue to hold/renew this credential and provide supervision. ADCs will still be eligible to apply for the Recovery Coach Supervisor credential.

  • Individuals who do not hold a current IBADCC credential (ADC, AADC, CCS), or do not have a Master's Degree in Addiction Counseling, will need to have the following education, credentials, and experience to register as a Supervisor or Recovery Coach Supervisor through IBADCC: Master's Degree from an accredited, approved, and recognized college or university in health and human services, a clinical licensure from a qualified licensing board in the State of Idaho and the equivalent of four (4) years paid full-time professional experience with three (3) years providing direct substance use disorders treatment and one (1) year paid full-time supervision experience in a substance use disorders treatment services state, federal, Joint Commission or CARF-approved program.

  • A one-time $30 application fee will be assigned for the initial Supervisor and Recovery Coach Supervisor credentials. There will be no renewal fee required.

Below are the full credential standards to obtain the Supervisor and Recovery Coach Supervisor credentials under IBADCC.
