Addiction is a genetically-driven disorder. We have known this fact for decades, yet the impact on SUD treatment science has been minimal – until now. This presentation details the use of genetic testing in the assessment and treatment of SUD. The history of the discovery, the underlying pathology, Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS), the Neuroreceptor Reward Cascade, the Genetic Addiction Risk Score (GARS) test, and using GARS to treat RDS will be discussed. This webinar will present recent information as to how genetic burden and the GARS test is impacting the criminal court system, dissecting determinism versus free will. The addiction treatment and recovery landscape is changing, and genetic testing science is creating the change. This science is creating new standards of care in addiction treatment.
