Job Description

Reports directly to the Clinical Director.

Job Overview: Looking for a full-time substance abuse counselor to join the current clinical staff at Rainbow’s End Recovery Center in Challis, Idaho. We are a dual-diagnosis residential facility that uses an eclectic, holistic approach to recovery from substance abuse and mental health disorders. In addition to the clinical staff this position will work with the medical and administrative staff as needed to foster superiority of care for clientele. A qualified candidate will have experience and proven success in treating substance abuse & mental health issues for clients through group, individual and family therapy.

Responsibilities & Duties:

· Lead group therapy sessions daily.

· Provide individual counseling to evaluate client’s progress in treatment.

· Orient new clients to treatment and perform assessments.

· Create master problem lists and treatment plans using ASAM criteria.

· Screen potential new clients for treatment fit to a residential setting.

· Meet with client family members to educate them or provide counseling as the need arises and matches qualifications.

· Set up aftercare plans and provide referrals as necessary for discharging clients.


· Must have a minimum of CADC or ACADC. Professional license in state of Idaho (LPC, LCPC, LCSW) is preferred.

· 2+ years in the substance abuse field.

· Must be able to pass a criminal history background check through the State of Idaho.

· Must be agreeable to 40-hour work week consisting of four 10-hour shifts.

· Must be willing to work weekend hours as necessary during the day.

· Must have the ability to utilize effective communication & conflict negotiation skills.

· CPR/First aid certification is required within 90 days.

· Experience using Motivational Interviewing techniques preferred & knowledge of CBT.

· Understanding of relapse prevention skills & knowledge of Prochaska’s stages of change.

· A preferred candidate will have a strong support system personally and knowledge of the 12-step mission & purpose.

· Preferred candidate will be able to lead outdoor excursions such as hiking, kayaking, fishing and pertinent therapeutic experiential activities as planned.


*Low client to staff ratio. Maximum client capacity is 14.

*Guaranteed 40-hour work shift; all non-billable.

*Health/Dental/Vision insurance is available to a qualified candidate after 90-day probation period.

*2 weeks paid time off is also available after 90-day probation period.

*3 consecutive days off every week.

*Free gym membership.

* There is a mandatory 90-day probation period to ensure a qualified candidate will be complementary to the current clinical staff.
