CODE OF CONDUCT FOR CADC, ACADC, ISAS, CCS & CPS

  
I. QUALITY OF CARE

A. That I have a commitment to provide the highest quality care for those who seek my professional services.
B. That I dedicate myself to the best interest of clients, and to assist the client to help themselves.
C. That I be willing, when it is in the best interest of my clients to release or refer clients to other programs or individuals as dictated by professional standards and good clinical practice.
D. That I will seek the advice and counselor of colleagues and supervisors whenever such consultation is in the best interest of clients.
E. That I shall maintain respect for institutional policies and management functions within agencies and institutions.
F. That I will respect the integrity of other professional colleagues in working for the benefit of public welfare.

Grounds for Discipline
a. Exploiting relationships with clients such as participating in or soliciting sexual relationships, taking financial advantage of clients, or using one’s position within an agency to enhance one’s private practice or the private practice of others for personal gain.
b. Entering into any illegal acts with a client.
c. Participating in, condoning, or being an accessory to dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.
d. Not providing clients with accurate and complete information regarding the extent and nature of the services available to them.
e. Any other substantial breach of the Code of Conduct not enumerated above, or the Code of Ethics as outlined in your manual.

II. CONFIDENTIALITY

A. That I shall adhere to the laws relating to confidentiality of all records, materials and knowledge concerning the client.

a. Violating the Federal and State confidentiality statutes.
b. Any other substantial breach of the Code of Conduct not enumerated above, or the Code of Ethics as outlined in your manual.

III. DISCRIMINATION

A. That I shall not in any way participate in discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age religion, national origin, marital status, political belief, mental or physical handicap or any other preference or personal characteristic condition or status.

a. Violating the Federal and/or State discrimination statutes.
b. Any other substantial breach of the Code of Conduct not enumerated above, or the Code of Ethics as outlined in your manual.

IV. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE

A. That I have a commitment to assess my own personal strengths, limitations, biases and effectiveness, and its impact on the therapeutic relationship on a continuing basis: That I shall continuously strive for self-improvement; that I have a personal responsibility for professional growth through further education and/or training.
B. That I have the responsibility for my own conduct in all areas of my professional life, that I have a responsibility for myself, my clients and other associates to maintain my physical, mental and emotional well-being.
C. That my private conduct is a personal matter to the same degree as is any other person’s except when such conduct compromises the fulfillment of professional responsibilities.
D. That I have the responsibility to the profession to recognize and attempt to rectify the violation of ethical standards, and assume the duty to report to violation to IBADCC.

Grounds for Discipline
a. Refusal to seek treatment for substance abuse, mental, emotional or physical health problems that interfere with professional functions.
b. Participating in, condoning, or being an accessory to dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.
c. The inability to perform or the consistent unsatisfactory performance of the expected functions of an alcohol and other drug abuse professional.
d. Using misrepresentation in the procurement of certification of rectification as an alcohol and other drug abuse professional or knowingly assisting another in the procurement of certification or recertification through misrepresentation.
e. Misrepresentation of professional qualifications, certifications, accreditation, affiliations, and employment experiences.
f. Any other substantial breach of the Code of Conduct not enumerated above, or the Code of Ethics as outlined in your manual.
