Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all those members who completed the on-line “satisfaction” survey that was offered throughout the month of February.

While we had many positive comments (keep ‘em coming!) about the services provided by the Idaho Certification board, there was also some constructive criticism given. Board members were given an opportunity to review both at our March 6^th, 2009 meeting.

As a result of the feedback that was given, and in light of the ever changing substance abuse treatment system that we live in, the Board sees the need to re-examine our goals, to review policies and procedures, to basically take a look at how we do business and decide whether or not “business as usual” is meeting the needs of our certified counselors.  Therefore, the Board has scheduled a meeting in May to begin this process.

The Board, however, was able to take some action towards one concern that was expressed throughout the survey and that was in regards to ethical conduct of certified counselors.  Therefore, beginning January 1, 2010, those who seek re-certification will need to submit a minimum of two hours of Ethics training as part of the twenty hours of continuing education (you may list under Professional Responsibility)..   The Board took this action in an effort to keep ethics information ever present in the minds of our certified counselors.

Again, I appreciate those certified folks who took the time to complete the survey. I also want to thank all of you for your dedication and work in the field of substance abuse prevention and/or treatment.
